By kind permission of Catherine Marcangeli and supported by Editions Contemporary Arts Ltd The Cornerstone Gallery Liverpool, is pleased to invite you to the Private View of an Adrian Henri retrospective on Thursday 23rd June 2005, 6-8pm.

Adrian Henri was born in Birkenhead, grew up in Rhyl and went on to study Fine Art at Newcastle University under Victor Pasmore and Richard Hamilton, settling in Liverpool in 1957. A former fairground worker, teacher, scenic artist and college lecturer, he went freelance in 1967, and led the poetry/rock group Liverpool Scene from 1967 to 1970. His career encompassed painting, poetry, performance, song-writing as well as a playwright up until his death in 2000.

The exhibition brings together Adrian's interests, fascinations and loves over the last forty years. It is a collection of better-known works, together with some drawings and prints which have never been shown before.

Marginalised artists- This Way Up

20/06/2005

The Other Side Gallery has been on line for over a year, now it's getting physical. Our first physical exhibition will be at The Byam Shaw School of Art Concourse Gallery from July 12th till July 17th. Funded by the Arts Council.

Vanessa Feltz will be opening the show at the Opening Night on the 12th from 5.30pm - 8.30pm

This selection of work is from The Other Side Gallery's ever growing collection of outsider artists, gathered from mental health day centres, homeless people's projects, disability art groups - in short artists that are on the fringes, marginalised or simply outside the mainstream art scene, or in fact mainstream society. The work shown has a high aesthetic content, with integrity and passion that bypass the fashions of the day.

In addition to the exhibition there will be a slide/sound installation in collaboration with Life and Living programme on Resonance Radio. This is a chance for the public to hear interviews with the artists talking about their life stories, experiences and motivations behind their artwork and to see the online exhibition. This is sure to be a gutsy and innovative show, so come and be moved and inspired -

THIS WAY UP at Byam Shaw School of Art Concourse Gallery, 2 Elthorne Road, Archway, London, N19 4AG
July 12th Opening Night with Vanessa Feltz and live music 5.30 -8.30 pm July 13th -17th. Wednesday - Friday 10am-4pm Sat/Sun 11pm - 5pm.

Sound Lines- Bill Fontana

20/06/2005

SOUND LINES - BILL FONTANA
21 June - 20 August; daily 7am-10pm; free
Dark Neville Street (Dark Arches), Leeds, LS1 4BR

------
Using live audio feeds from Leeds City Station and the River Aire, US artist Bill Fontana will create a large scale sound installation turning the historic Dark Arches into an immense musical instrument. A series of overhead microphones installed within the structure of the train station will pick up the bustle of platform activity, whilst sensors fixed directly onto rail tracks will listen to the vibrations of trains arriving and departing. Beneath the station, underwater microphones will listen to the River Aire as it flows through the architecture of the railway arches.

'Sound Lines' attempts to capture these continually changing layers of energy as they arrive, depart, and flow through the city.
------

Commissioned by MAAP and Lumen
Presented as part of Architecture Week 2005 http://www.lumen.org.uk/soundlines

Supported by Arts & Business New Partners Scheme, Arts Council England, Isis, Leeds City Council, Spacia and Network Rail.
------

San Francisco based Bill Fontana is known internationally for his experimental work with sound. Using urban and natural environments as a living source of musical information he radically transforms the meaning of public space. His extensive body of work includes temporary and permanent installations in New York, Paris, Vienna and London.
